The first greases were used as multipurpose greases are Lithium greases. Lithium greases have a smooth and buttery appearance with low fibrous content. Basically, Lithium greases can be manufactured by mixing lithium 12-hydoxystearate soap and additives into petroleum base oil. Rust inhibitor additive is usually added in Lithium greases production, because of it misses for this feature (Manual Engineer, 1999).
Multi purpose lithium based greases with anticorrosion properties and oxidation resistance. They show good water washout properties and recommended for central lubrication systems and ball bearings in automotive applications in cars, trucks and agricultural equipment.
Working temperature -20°C to +130°C.
